2566 miles; 48.5 hours, 7 days
In the past I've always driven straight through, non stop, so this was definitely my most leisurely x-country trip ever. Two days from Sandpoint to Minneapolis; drove through the most intense thunderstorms I've ever seen. Impressive! Stayed in Minneapolis one night with MC's sister Elizabeth (Mark and Jeremy), and saw Minnehaha Falls at full bore. On to Lake Bluff, IL (near Chicago), MC's sister Bernie - wonderful food and great live music by Terry and friends, with a little help from niece Jessica. Cleveland, OH; Tom and Barbara - she and MC up 'til 3:00 AM both nights talking! Niece Amy's four beautiful, energetic boys, Lake Erie, hot dogs, hamburgers, and the best blueberry pie I've ever tasted. Arrived in Bethesda 4:30PM on Monday the 4th, in time for a nice bicycle ride in the (relatively) cool Rock Creek Park, and more classic 4th of July food - burgers, beans and corn on the cob. Lots of tests the next few days - the pre-transplant re-staging - including another bone marrow (ugh!) Admission this Thursday. Onward!

So glad you took the time to stop along the way this trip. Sounds like you had a great visit with family and friends. We are thinking about you as you enter this phase of recovery.
Our bike trip was fun (?). Already planning another for next summer.

We thought of you and Mary Catherine on the Fourth while we waited for the fireworks to start. Ken and Doris tied their powerboat alongside Traveler and we waited and waited. Must have been some trouble at the launch site but at least Sandpoint escaped without injuries. A couple other towns had injuries amongst the fireworks blasters.
So we remembered last year aboard the sailboat and all wished you well on your long drive. It is fun to read about it. By now (Friday) you are in the middle of the medical world and we continue to send you love and positive hopes.
